The Advent of Modern Technologies

The advent of modern technologies has undeniably bought so much comfort to the lives of people. It has supported major industries in so many ways that production has become so large scale enough to meet human needs for agricultural and industrial producers. But one drawback caused by technological advancement is overshadowed by these comforts, and that is depletion of the natural resources. Awareness has been raised regarding this condition that have lead to a revolution in the use of natural resources have been made and welcomed the enhancement of energy-technologies.

What are the two energy sources renewable-energy? Basically energy resource is either renewable or nonrenewable. An energy source is considered renewable resource only if it is replaced by natural processes and is replenished with the passage of time.Renewable energy on the other hand are resources with sustainable yields. Sadly, the major sources of energy that is used to manage technology are nonrenewable, meaning they can be depleted. They include gasoline, coal, natural gas, diesel, and other products derived from fossil fuels which are non-renewable. The depletion of nonrenewable energy source will be inevitable because it is not refurbished. Because of this, attentions are periodically shifted to the use of renewable-energy-technologies.

Sustainable energy which is often regarded as renewable resources is the provision of energy that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. They include plant matter, solar power, wind power, wave power, geothermal power and tidal power. It usually also includes technologies that improve energy efficiency otherwise called renewable-energy-technologies.

Solar energy is a form of renewable-energy which supports technologies. Solar energy is the energy derived directly from the Sun. It is the most abundant source of energy on Earth and the fastest growing type of alternative energy. Renewable-energy-technologies through solar energy use the photovoltaic cell. It converts sunlight directly into electricity. The Sun yearly delivers more than 10,000 times the energy that humans present consume.

Wind power is another replenishable source. It derived from uneven heating of the Earth's surface from the Sun and the warm core. Renewable-energy-technologies supported by wind power is generated by electricity collected via converting the rotation of turbine blades into electrical current by means of an electrical generator.

Hydropower is a very common resource used to run renewable-energy-technologies . The power is derived from the movement of water in rivers and oceans, which can be used to generate electricity using turbines, or can be used mechanically to do useful work. Another renewable source is geothermal power which is produced through directly harnessing the natural flow of heat from the ground.

Spot the Warning Signs of Aging Plumbing

Learn to identify the signs of aging plumbing by examining your water quality and being on the lookout for pinhole leaks and pipe corrosion. While it is a costly project to install new piping throughout a home, it is even more expensive to repair water damage and broken pipes.

What Type of Pipes Are In Your Home?

The age of your home will most likely determine the condition of your pipes, along with the type of piping material. Brass pipes can last 40 to 70 years, copper pipes can last more than 50 years and galvanized steel pipes can last from 20 to 50 years. It’s important to note that the time frames are completely subjective. For homes located in regions with hard water, pipes may break down much sooner than expected, as the high calcium and magnesium levels cause scale deposits to form inside pipes, and eventually cause clogs.

If your pipes are made of lead, you must completely replace each one as soon as possible. Though lead pipes have a life span of up to 100 years, the compound can poison your water supply. If your pipes are made of polybutylene, a popular piping material choice in the 1970s, your plumbing is at high risk for breakage. Polybutylene is inexpensive, but has proven unable to handle long-term contact with water treatment chemicals such as chlorine.

Observe Water Quality and Usage

Pay attention to the taste and color of your water. If you spot orange-tinted water in any bathtub or sink drain, it could signal pipe corrosion. Pipe erosion is inevitable – high-powered water flow will eventually wear down any pipe. However, pipe corrosion occurs when the water chemically reacts with the pipe’s makeup, eating away at its interior and causing premature disintegration. Corroded pipes not only give water an unpleasant taste, but could cause the water to pose a serious health hazard when ingested. Corrosion is a clear indication of outdated, unfit plumbing systems.

If you notice a recent water bill increase even though your normal routine has not changed, this could be a sign of a pipe leak. Even the smallest leak can create widespread water and mold damage, and if it goes undetected it may worsen. Experienced plumbers can use techniques to pinpoint the source, replace the leaking pipe section and search out any other weak spots in the system.

Inspect Exposed Piping Regularly

Two obstacles work against homeowners who are dedicated to keeping their plumbing functioning properly. First, new homeowners may not know if the pipes were well-maintained by the previous property owner or what previous plumbing issues, if any, existed. Second, plumbing lines are commonly hidden from view inside walls and ceilings.

Homeowners can obtain a copy of the home inspector’s report conducted before the sale of the property to discern the age and type of pipes in the home and if any plumbing concerns were noted. They can also inspect the sections of exposed piping, such as those located in a garage or crawl space, for signs of flaking metal or rust. If small leaks are popping up in the visible sections, other pipes may be experiencing the same problems. In this case, it’s time to call a plumber who can diagnose any concealed plumbing problems.

For experienced advice on the current state of your pipes, schedule an inspection with a trusted local plumber who can thoroughly assess if your home is showing signs of aging plumbing in need of repair or replacement.

How To Use The VBA Current Region Method In Excel

Accessing the Current Region is one of the most valuable VBA techniques in Excel. Not only can it select a data set or table, it enables you to access individual cells, rows and columns within the region; making it very useful for new Excel developers:

  • Search an entire table
  • Select multiple columns to use in a chart
  • Define rows and cells for highlighting

An Example Of Selecting The Current Region

The normal syntax for selecting the currentRegion is as follows:

Range(cellAddress).currentRegion.select

While it makes sense to use the first cell of the table as the base for the region, any cell reference within the region can be used. Let’s look at an example of how you can use the current region in real life.

Let’s say we need to search an entire table starting at “A1” for a defined text string:

myText="text to search for"
myRange="a1"
range(myRange).currentRegion.select

for each c in selection
if instr(c,myText) then
' match found
End if
next

Accessing Cells, Rows And Columns Within The Current Region

Because a region covers multiple rows and columns there are a few different techniques to access items within the region:

In a 2 row by 4 column table (2 x 4) you might want to know the address of the last cell in the table, so you can add data to the next row. This code identifies the next cell address for data input by finding the final row and moving to the next cell.

Range(myRange).currentRegion.select
lastRow=selection.rows.count
cellAddress=selection.rows(lastRow).cells(1).address
range(cellAddress).offset(1,0).activate

Similarly, if we wanted to format each row, we’d need to know how many columns were included in the region:

cols=selection.columns.count

And if you had 3 columns and wanted to return the 2nd column to include as a series range in a chart you could use this line of code:

myRange=selection.columns(2).address

In a 3 x 4 table, this would return a value in the form $B$1:$B$4 which coincidentally is the format to include the column in a chart.

It might be useful to think of the Current Region as a collection, and the cells, rows and columns are items in the collection having their own properties. In this way when you need to access the items within the region you can do so intuitively, rather than relying on knowledge of specific properties and methods.

Summary

The Current Region is one the most useful tools for both new and experienced VBA developers. A good understanding of its methods and properties is essential for effective and productive Excel applications.

How To Fix The 0x0eedfade "Unknown Software Exception" Error On Your PC

The 0x0eedfade error is a big problem for many Windows PCs which are continually showing the message when they cannot correctly process software or settings that are on your system. The problem with this error is specifically that your PC will try and read the various files it needs to run your software, but will somehow have a problem that will prevent it from being able to correctly process the settings. If you find this problem is showing continually on your system, you can fix it by using the tools & methods which are going to repair any of the problems that your PC may have.

This error is basically caused by the “software” (usually Internet Explorer) on your PC being unreadable and unable to load up. The problem you’re seeing will likely show in this format:

  • “The exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812a5b”

The specific cause of this error is that there will be some problem with the program you’re trying to load. The most common issue is that “Internet Explorer” will have third party plugins which are not loading correctly. In order to resolve the problem, you first need to disable any of the third-party plugins which your Internet Explorer application may have, as well as then fixing any potential problems on the Windows system itself.

The way to resolve this error is to first make sure that Internet Explorer doesn’t have any third-party plugins which are causing problems. To do this, you should click onto “Open IE > Tools >Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Uncheck “Enable Third Party Browser Extensions (Require Restart)”. This will then allow you to load up Internet Explorer without any other software programs to disrupt or damage it, which should stop the 0x0eedfade error on most systems. On top of that, it’s also recommended that you repair your installation of Windows by updating it and then reinstalling any other programs which may be causing errors.

It’s also recommended that you use a “registry cleaner” program to scan through your PC and fix any of the potential problems that you may also have with the registry database of your system. The registry database is a large central storage facility which keeps all the files, settings and information that your computer will use to run, and is used by Windows to help load up everything from your desktop icons to your stored passwords. One of the most common causes of the 0x0eedfade error is actually down to the registry being damaged and corrupted, preventing your system from correctly being able to read the files it needs to run. To ensure this is not a problem, you should repair any potential registry errors that you have on your PC by downloading, installing and running a registry cleaner application.

The Importance of Your eCommerce Site for Your Business

It is plain to see why a poorly designed website can be a major problem to online businesses, most especially during the holiday season, which covers 20% to 40% of the yearly sales.

In this regard, those who need data validation can refer to the stats that explain the importance of your brand’s presence on the Internet:

  • Before people shop at a physical store, they often check websites of online stores.
  • Customers search online for the prices and availability of goods so they would know whether to shop online or at physical stores.
  • During an economic crisis, consumers exercise caution when shopping online to stretch their budget, resulting to an increase of website traffic.
  • Shoppers that tend to purchase downloadable gifts like eBooks, music and FB credits, among others, will likely buy more.

Optimize Your Online Site Immediately

Now that you are aware of your site’s importance, what should you do before the holiday season approaches? It is never too late to try some of these strategies:

Prepare for unexpected traffic.Plan ahead of time to make sure that your site can manage all the orders. Anticipate peak loads, observe the responsiveness of your site and assess application performance way before Cyber Monday.

Increase the speed of your site. Use a CDN (content delivery network) for a speedy delivery of relevant content with videos and images to your consumers.

During the holidays, most shoppers use their mobile devices to search online before heading for the stores. Therefore, it would be wise to incorporate an in-store experience with info regarding your well-timed and relevant personalized website and mobile apps.

Find ways to let the customers easily find your products on the web. To improve exposure, submit a feed to the top online shopping comparison engine, Google Product Search. Try the Amazon Marketplace or add pay-per-click ads to Amazon Product Ads’ product and category pages. This way, shoppers will be able to view your ads when they find products that are similar to yours.

Though social media is not the main channel for searching, it has targeted the mainstream and has therefore gained importance, specifically to GenY shoppers. Transform visitors into sales channels by including social sharing in product pages. Display good customer service in public by resolving issues with customers on networking sites like Facebook or Twitter.

People who are low on budget usually search online before buying, so it is a good idea to follow the example of various sites in making it fun, simple and efficient to shop on the web. Provide product filters, rich product details, comparison tools, well-designed navigation and recommendations. Enhance the images of your best-selling products, emphasize your value propositions and make sure that shipping and return policies are clear.

Fix your leaky conversion funnel immediately by adding simple and cost-efficient website usability and feedback tools.

Whenever possible, ask for the visitor’s email address and try to squeeze a lot of value out of each sign-up.

Try to employ remarketing campaigns so you can target consumers who take time to buy.

Software As A Service Is The Backbone Of Online Collaboration

You walk into the office to a surprise. The year is 1986. The night before a fax came in from Korea on your new single page fax machine that cost $ 1200. Problem is that now it is an hour too late to contact your manufacturer and tell them that the corrections they made are off and well you are going to have to lose another couple days to the design issues.

It is 1998 and you get back from lunch. You sit down at your desk, lift the phone receiver and check your 14 messages, one by one. When done you get up and check your inbox. Not the one on the large desktop on your desk, but the one stuffed with mail and papers on the wall by your door.

This is what we take for granted today. That as recently as 12 and 25 years ago the time saving conveniences of mobile and web technologies were not only absent, but business kept on trucking along in a trillion dollar global economy.

Today, with our pocket-sized access to the entire universe (have you seen Sky ?, I am not exaggerating here), we no longer have to wait for answers, information, solutions or just plain conversation. We can find anyone just about where they are. In fact these days, the hip thing to do is to unplug rather than be part of the collective that is plugged in.

Hip is not going to make you more effective as a leader. Online services in the cloud will. If you think your small business can run just find with a single computer, a bookkeeper, a website, an email address and Microsoft Office, think again. See the company to the left and right of you are moving their billing online, they have a virtual assistant managing their web properties, a project collaboration tool and the customer relationship management system. They have you connected to the world through a social network and are constantly making sure you are part of the conversation. The cost of this is assistant is the same as the one you had in your old office, but now you work from home and he / she lives 1000+ miles away. And the 15-20 different programs this person uses in the cloud to run your business cost you about 250 bucks a month. That is less than half the cost of the space you save by not having that bigger office if you still leave the house to work at all.

I am talking to you micro business owner. The wedding planner, the plumber, the architect and florist. We have to increase our agility and take advantage of what technology is providing or, well frankly, someone else will.

Helpful Tips to Enjoy Great Gaming Experiences

Most of us love playing games on our computers, tablets, and smartphones. However, the games that we play on our consoles and computers do a much better job of creating a realistic experience. Video games are not only great for bonding with people we know, they are also a good medium for making new friends as well.

Here is how you can get the most out of modern video games:

Watch your expenses:

Heavy video game titles, especially when they just come out, are quite expensive. Some games cost even more than $ 50. Most people find such prices to be unreasonable. That does not mean you always have to spend a fortune in order to enjoy these games.

Here are some ways to enjoy games at cheaper rates.

  • Wait for a few months after the games have been released, because prices come down quite significantly
  • Shop on holidays and events, especially on Cyber Monday, when you get crazy discounts
  • Considering buying legitimate used games from the market, as they are significantly cheaper

However, do not buy pirated games, because it takes away the fun. Also, if you are playing online games, then your copy needs to be licensed and registered to get all the features.

Playing family friendly games

Many games out there are meant to be played exclusively by adults, and they might even contain a bit of profanity. If you want to enjoy the gaming experience with your children, then you will want to avoid such titles. The best way to find out is to check for the ESRB ratings. They are very much like movie ratings that separate adult content from family friendly ones.

Here are some things you should do to make your experience better:

  • Set up a family online account on your consoles, so you can save your history and continue from where you left off the last time
  • When you enable the internet on your console, make sure that the privacy settings are enabled the way you want
  • Disable automatic payments for in-game upgrades, as kids may inadvertently choose the wrong options and waste money
  • Game strategies to help you succeed
  • Some of the console games that come out today have complex strategies. You will take a while to get the hang of them.

If you play a lot of first person shooter (or FPS) games:

  • Make sure you play individually for a while, so that you understand how all the options work
  • Do not reload your gun in the game. Always hide or crouch when referring, else another player can kill you while referring
  • The key to doing well in shooter games is staying alive, so it is always defense first
  • Save your games at different points, so you can go back to a previous state if you do not like what you did.

Console games are not just entertainment, but also give the brain and body workout. They also help children in developing many physical and mental skills. More importantly, they let you tie your stress after a hard day's work.

Cox, Spain

If you are traveling into the south east of Spain, around Alicante or Murcia, you should pay a visit to the village of Cox. There is a population of approximately 6 1/2 thousand people here and the main language is Spanish. The town is situated at the base of the Sierra de Segura and it has a large agricultural base, the farmers growing mainly fruits and vegetables.

The history of the area is much the same as many of the other towns in this province. There is definite archaeological evidence that there were settlers in the area going back to Stone Age times. The Moors, had a great influence on the people and the land until they were conquered by the Christians in the 13th century. The population of this village has increased by over 300% in the last three decades.

The Costa Blanca itself has a lot to offer the tourist. From Cox, you can visit the beautiful Mediterranean seaside where you will find plenty to keep you entertained, apart from the obvious sunbathing. In Cox itself, there is plenty to do it and see if you are looking for architecture. There is the fully restored Castilla de Santa Barbara. This is located about 80 meters into the hills around Cox. There is a footpath that goes all the way up to the castle although you should take it in sections as it is very steep. The only problem is you will not be able to get inside the castle without permission. There are some tours but they are organized infrequently. There is also the Cox Mill which is now an ethnic museum.

Of course, if you are looking for some real fun in the evening time, you should head up to one of the nearby cities. Both Alicante and Benidorm offer great night-time entertainment. If you go to Benidorm, you can be sure of all night long entertainment. They are many different cabaret acts which normally stand at around eight o'clock every evening.

How to Make Your House Look Bigger From the Street

As an Architect, in designing new homes for clients, they first come to me with standard tastes you would see on any house in any neighborhood. What I try to do is to expand their architectural vocabulary and be bold in what they’re trying to do, without spending a lot more money. Part of that is to make their house look bigger from the street and live bigger inside. You can get a lot of “wow” factor if you try some simple things in your home design.

1. Make your house longer, not square. Most people want to make their houses more square in design, in the preconceived notion of saving costs. While this may be overall true, it also makes your house very small looking (and boring). For a 2500 square foot house instead of designing it 50 foot by 50 foot, make your house longer like 75 foot long by 33 wide. You’d be surprised how much more elegant and more expensive it looks for not that much more money. It also gives you a bonus of giving windows into almost every room in your home, giving light and visual space to them.

2. Use the Split level home concept. The split level home was more prevalent in the 1960’s than it is today, but it has a lot of advantages if you modernize it. The Split Level pulls the basement out of the ground. In most of the northern part of the country (I’m from Indiana), you need at least a 30″ or deeper footing to get below the local frost line. Well, let that be the staring point of your basement (or as I like to call it, the Lower Level). That means the Lower Level is 2 feet below grade, which means you can have full size windows. The Lower Level foundation wall is 30″ tall, the rest of the wall height can be wood instead of concrete (whether 8′ or 9′ tall) which saves costs. If you use 8′ tall lower level (to reduce costs) there is a design I like to use to eliminate bulkheads for HVAC;…incorporate the ducts in a floor truss system. I love to use 16” high floor trusses, 24″ on center, and keeping the trusses in the same orientation throughout the house. It gives plenty of space for the HVAC ducts in the floor truss system, and no bulkheads, meaning less cost since you have flat ceilings and no extra framing for those bulkheads. If you need space for the HVAC to “step over” each other, do that in the mechanical room.

3. With the split level home, The 2nd Floor (or the “Main Level” as I like to call it) it anywhere from 7 to 9 feet above grade, not only giving it a commanding view of the property all around, it also looks like a 2 story building, for a 1 story price. You can leave windows open at night because the window sills are 10 feet above grade. You have a lot of visual privacy because people on the street don’t have a direct view into the house. When you sit down they can’t see you, even if you have lots of windows. On the Main Level I love to use vaulted roof trusses on the Main Level to give more visual height in the rooms.

4. Use wide overhangs. Wide overhangs were more prevalent during the Prairie Style period This may seem strange, but wide overhangs (like 4′ wide) make you house look bigger both inside and outside. As I stated above, I love vaulted roof trusses. I start with an 8′ tall wall (rather than 9′). With a 4 foot overhang and vaulted roof trusses, the wall height on the inside is now 10′ (8′ wall, 2′ in the roof truss), with the ceiling peak at 15′. This is because the roof started “going up” further away from the exterior wall. I’m getting 10 to 15 foot ceilings for an 8 foot tall wall price. The wide overhangs also help in summer, by shielding the windows in shade, keeping direct sunlight outside.

5. Incorporate decks and screen porches into the design. Don’t make decks and screen porches an afterthought, but incorporate them into the design, that is, put brick or siding on them, put a roof over them, and make the openings look like windows, but don’t put in the glass. And consider putting them on the front of the house, not the rear. I designed a house for my parents which was 1300 square feet on the Main Level, but added the screen porch on the front of the house. The house was 72 feet long in the front (24′ screen porch, 16′ Great Room, 8′ Entry, 24′ Garage) and it looks huge. (if you want to see it, go to my Web Site (Web address down below), Home Page, near the middle of the page, “Click Here for More House Photos”, and it’s the 1st photo. The screen porch is to the left) The Screen Porch interior is finished in moisture resistant drywall, so interior feels like any other room in the house, (it also has vaulted ceilings) but it’s not heated or cooled. It is the most lived in space of the home. Having the screen porch or deck on the front of the home gives you more community with your neighbors, while it can give you more privacy. On my home, the deck has a solid wall from grade to 42″ above the deck floor. This gives visual privacy when sitting down, but when I stand up, I can converse with then neighbors (42″ is also leaning height for your elbows). As a bonus, with the split level home, the space below the deck (since it has siding and the floor 7′ above grade) and the roof above the deck, I have an 18 wide 28 foot long shed below the deck for lawn mowers, bikes, tools, which I don’t have to keep in the garage.

6. Downplay the garage. There’s nothing visually pleasing about a garage. The most important rooms of the home (Great Room, Dining Room, maybe the Screen Porch) should have the most visual presence on your home. Having a monster 24 foot by 36 foot garage sticking out the front of you house is not good looking. Set it back from the front of the home, and if you can, put toward the rear of the house. Use a side entry on the garage doors if you can. And put lots of normal windows like the rest of the house. Try to make it look like any other room from the street. By down playing the garage and making look like another room on your home, it’ll make your house seem bigger when it really isn’t. If you’re one of the homeowners who eventually turn their garage into living space, having the garage look like a normal room from the outside makes it easy for this conversions. Just remove the garage doors and install window sizes like the rest of your home.

7. Use lots of repetitive windows. By using the same window size over and over in a long pattern, it’ll make the house seem longer. And these don’t need to be operable windows. Fixed windows are less expensive the operable windows.

Ways to Work Online at Home

Ireland is one of the few countries that are not yet fully aware of the many income opportunities from the internet. But because the whole world is experiencing recession, even the Irish people need to make money on the side to make ends meet.

One good way to earn extra income to sustain the costs of living is to work online at home in Ireland. This may be a new practice to the Irish, but it is really going to help them make a living. There are different options to choose from. Freelance writing jobs are available; They can range from writing, web-designing, marketing, transcription, and data entry. There are several different virtual companies that focus on operating and renting within the country. Any Irish can take advantage of this opportunity.

Affiliate marketing is another way to work online at home in Ireland. This is a bought-after part-time job because it does not require you to take your full attention to the job. When you become part of affiliate marketing, all you do is advertise a company's products in exchange of commission. You must have a website that can host advertisements and banners of the company you sign affiliation with.

If affiliate marketing is not at all appealing to you, you can always resort to online paid surveys. It does not matter what country you are from, survey websites need and value your points of view. All that you really need to do is answer a survey – give your feedback and honest opinion, and you will be paid for doing so.
